Managers/Coaches

What’s required?

The MYB program cannot run without its numerous coaches and managers. Are these men and women experienced baseball players or coaches? Sometimes, but not always. More importantly they are adults who want to spend time with our town youth, teaching them good sportsmanship, hard work, and the lessons learned from both winning and losing. Teaching baseball and having fun are the easy tasks!

The Reward?

Possibly lifelong relationships with children who admire you, parents who thank you, and knowing you took an active part in a community raising good people through baseball.

Now while we all want to have fun, we also know that we need to provide our Coaches with the information and materials to improve themselves as teachers of the game. The Board hands out game facts and practice suggestions on a deck of cards that will provide visual instructions and advice. We highly recommend that all our coaches go online and complete the Cal Ripken coaching course. And we also give you access to a network of consult throughout our organization to get you the help you need, when you need it. Our Player Reps many times have coached themselves, or have at least seen the program work with their own eyes, and sometimes through their own children. Their job is to help the coaches within their Division become successful coaches.

The time commitment of coaching is sometimes the biggest reason many people do not commit. So maybe then you agree to Assistant Coach to help a Manager. Or maybe you’re the third coach on a team, where the commitment runs less deep at times. Never opt out from volunteering fearing you won’t have enough time – the more hands, the better. We will find a way for you to contribute what you are comfortable with.
